Sonam brings the curtains down on Jewellery Week

Actress Sonam Kapoor Thursday closed the second season of the four day jewellery extravaganza - the India International Fashion Week (IIJW), walking the ramp showcasing an exclusive piece of international brand, Boucheron of Paris.

The IIJW paid tribute to Boucheron by making it the closing show of the event.

Dressed in a red gown with floral imprint of the same colour, Sonam sported Paris-based designer`s "Queen of Night" collection which includes a neckpiece, which looks like a collection of floral branches, meticulously designed with rubies, diamonds and sapphires.

"The whole point of the look is very wild and other worldly. It reminds me of the Shakespeare`s description of Elizabethan age and their jewelleries. This one piece enhances your beauty. There is a special mechanism which makes the flowers open and close," Sonam told reporters after the grand finale of the show here.

The final show started with `Dabangg` actor Sonu Sood taking the ramp showcasing some heavy gold beaded jewellery of PC Jewelleries. He was followed by other models showcasing the glittering range of the brand.

Model-turned actor Lara Dutta was one of the star attractions of the evening, walking the ramp in a white dress and adorned with a big diamond necklace and earrings.

Being three months pregnant, the initial bulge of her stomach was quite visible.

Asked if she was nervous walking the ramp at this condition, she said: "No, not at all. Modelling is my second nature."

Her husband, tennis player Mahesh Bhpati had come to watch the show.

To make the show more engrossing, it was coupled with some dance sequences in-between the ramp walks.

The show also ran a retrospect of the best of collection of all the jewellery houses that participated in the jewellery week. Models exhibited the chosen collections of each of the brands on the ramp.

Sanjay Kothari, the vice-chairman of Indian Gems and Jewellery Export Council and chairman of India International Jewellery Week (IIJW), thanked its sponsors, associates and media for making the show successful.

Math wizard`s coaching helped me direct Amitabh Bachchan: Jha

Film-maker Prakash Jha today said he used the teaching skills and body language of Super30 founder and math wizard Anand Kumar to direct Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan in his upcoming film `Aarakshan`.

"I took help from Anand Kumar and I observed his body language and skills which helped me to teach Amitji and Saif," Jha told reporters on a mission here for promoting his upcoming film with Amitabh Bachchan and Manoj Vajpayee.

"I am really thankful to Anand Kumar for his sincere efforts in helping me to direct the maths coaching portion of the film. Kumar accepted my request to come to Mumbai and give coaching in mathematics," Jha said.

Having missed the opportunity to go to Cambridge in 1994 because of acute financial constraints, Anand set up the Ramanujan School of Mathematics for poor children in 1992.

In 2002, he set up `Super 30`, where he provides free education, food and lodging to 30 talented students from underprivileged sections of the society for the IIT-JEE. In the last nine years, 236 students have qualified.

`Aarakshan` is slated to release on August 12.

Ajay gets experimental, signs Priyadarshan`s film

Ajay Devgn seems to be in a wildly experimental mood. Swinging from the hardcore mainstream `Singham`, he now goes on to what is arguably the quirkiest film of his career.

The film in questions will be titled "The Arab The Camel & P Madhavan Nair" and it is the Hindi version of Priyadarshan`s Malayalam movie which is on the verge of completion. The original stars Mohanlal.

"Yes, I am remaking `The Arab, The Camel & P Madhavan Nair` with Ajay. This is the first time I`ve decided to do a Hindi version of a film even before completing the Malayalam version. I am also certain Ajay can do full justice to it. After `Aakrosh`, I feel I owe him a hit," said Priyadarshan.

"Actually, remakes work for me. And why not? I am remaking my own films," he added.

Isha Koppikar doesn`t regret not being a part of `Don 2`

Many would give a hand to be a part of Shah Rukh Khan`s forthcoming sequel to "Don", but actress Isha Koppikar, who was part of the 2006 remake of the original "Don" has no regrets that she could not make it to the much-awaited and hyped sequel.

"I`m not a part of `Don 2` and I don`t regret not being a part of it," Isha told reporters at the ongoing India International Jewellery Week (IIJW).

The actress walked the ramp for Kashi Jewellers, wearing a set of emeralds, rubies, diamonds and polkis.

The original "Don" that starred Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan released in 1978 and in 2006, Farhan Akhtar directed a remake of the film, where Isha essayed the role of Don`s (Shah Rukh Khan) girlfriend Anita.

However, the actress was not offered a role in the sequel that is slated to release later this year.

Although Isha, who married longtime boyfriend Timmy Narang in 2009, could not secure a place in "Don 2", the actress is excited about her upcoming release "Shabri", a Ram Gopal Varma production that will hit the screens after a gap of five years.

"This film was made a couple of years back and now it is releasing. Better late than never. I`m very excited. Everyone has worked very hard on it and I`m glad it`s releasing. The promotions have just started," said Isha.

"It`s a gangster movie. It`s about a spurned woman, who gets sandwiched between mafia and the police," she added.

The 34-year-old is also planning to venture into the hospitality sector.

"I`m also venturing into hospitality business because I want to do something more than just movies," she said.

Prakash Jha `surprised` over cancelled Lucknow show

Filmmaker Prakash Jha is upset that the permission to stage a grand show in Lucknow to promote his forthcoming film "Aarakshan" was withdrawn by the Mayawati government at the eleventh hour. He says if people have a problem with the film, they should discuss it with him head on.

"I am surprised that the permissions were cancelled at the last minute. I just don`t understand what kind of problems people have with my film. Nobody has seen the film, and even if they have issues with the promos of the film, why can`t they point it out to me?" Jha said in a statement.

The event, a debate on the subject of the film - caste-based reservations in the Indian society - was to be held in Lucknow Wednesday. Film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Manoj Bajpai and Prateik Babbar were to attend the event, along with Jha. But they were denied permission by the state administration on grounds of "apprehension of breach of peace".

To this, Jha said: "For the last month my team had been in process of organising this debate in Lucknow and had got the approved permission from all authorities. Thus, this last-minute withdrawal without any stated reason is quite baffling."

The film is set for release Aug 12, and the team has been touring different cities to promote it. From Patna, they skipped Lucknow, and flew directly to New Delhi Wednesday.

Bachchan, who plays a key role in the film, took to his blog to share his sentiments on being kept away from visiting Lucknow.

"It is strange to prevent us from coming into the city fearing a law and order situation, for the Censor Board has already given us a certificate for exhibition...a bit strange do you not think??" posted the 68-year-old.
