Pete Doherty gets cozy with French First Lady Carla Bruni

Junkie rocker Pete Doherty has reportedly struck a close relationship with the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, over their shared interests of music and poetry.

The embattled singer met supermodel-turned-pop singer Carla Bruni in Paris earlier this month, just days after his early release from jail for cocaine possession.

“Pete has got to know Carla, and they have a real connection,” the Mirror quoted Doherty’s manager Andrew Boyd as saying.

The unlikely pair has met several times, speak regularly on the phone and have exchanged lengthy letters. They are also discussing working together on music projects, friends have revealed.

“They’ve met up several times and really hit it off. Pete really enjoys Carla’s company and is flattered by the fact she wants to spend time with him,” a friend of Doherty’s revealed.

“He’s absolutely taken with her... and what man wouldn’t be?

“Although their backgrounds may seem different they have an awful lot in common and chat endlessly about music, poetry, fashion and life.

“Carla is just the type of woman Pete likes – intelligent, sophisticated and, of course, extremely beautiful.

“For her part, Carla finds Pete really bohemian and interesting,” the friend added.
