Rani refused to work in Vishal Bhardwaj’s film over title!

Actress Rani Mukerji has been keen to work with filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj for a while now. Recently, when she was contacted to do a film, she refused because she didn’t like the title.

The film is supposedly a supernatural thriller to be produced by Ekta Kapoor, starring actor Emraan Hashmi in the lead male character.

A source said to a daily, “Rani was very keen to work with Vishal and Ekta. The filmmaker wanted to cast her in the title role for his next, ‘Daayan’ — a supernatural thriller — about a man (Emraan Hashmi) and his relationship with three women, one of whom is a witch. Rani came to Ekta`s office for a meeting with the team. After an initial narration, Rani said she loved it but a few days later, she decided she didn`t like the film`s title and was uncomfortable playing a witch.”

However this is not the only reason, “She doesn`t want to act opposite Hashmi and currently, wants to do lead roles opposite big stars. She has a film with Aamir Khan, and is in the process of signing two more films. So, she doesn`t want to do films like ‘Daayan’,” adds the source.

A source from Ekta`s company informed a daily, “Ekta is equally adamant about retaining Emraan. After ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’, he has emerged as a firm favourite with her company. He is one actor who reaches the smallest towns and interiors.”

Kapoor maintains, “We are very excited about the film but officially, nothing has been announced as yet. We are still working on the script and haven`t begun casting yet.”

On being contacted by media, Rani`s spokesperson said, “She has no reservations about working with anybody. She is currently in the middle of Aamir`s film and will sign two more biggies by next fortnight. She won`t be able to give any dates to Ekta till next year. The question of casting and Emraan comes in later. She will never question Vishal about his casting — whether it`s the serial kisser or anyone else.”
